One prospective player stood gazing out across the soccer field, seeing other players pull off tricks and skills he could only dream of. His hopes of playing NMH soccer started to fade as he realized he couldn’t compete with the others. On the final day of tryouts, with his hopes dead, he learned that a new team would be created.

This new team meant that many more players would have the opportunity to participate in playing soccer at NMH, giving chances to those who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to play the sport they love.

One player on the new team, Caleb Cheung 26’ was ecstatic, saying, “I was given an opportunity I thought I wouldn’t have.” He is a skilled but injured player and likely would not have made a soccer team if not for this opportunity.

Many who were wondering about the new coach were caught by surprise on the first day of practice.

The new coach's name is Jim Trill, a retired man who had a career playing semi-pro soccer. He felt extremely  excited about his opportunity to coach, saying he “couldn’t turn the offer down and see 17 or 18 players not have a coach.”

He is incredibly excited to be coaching these players, and can’t wait to develop this team into a strong group that can play at a competitive level.

The new Thirds B soccer team is still in its early stages, and it is not yet certain how the soccer games will be scheduled. However, in the first few weeks of practice, the players have seen notable improvement.

Thirds A coach Tom Bloom said, “While the players on thirds B are less technical than those on Thirds A, they are playing extremely well and playing a great style of soccer.” Nonetheless,  the members of the team and the coach are excited about the future and hope to play in more games.
